How to use multiple profiles in Firefox for better browsing privacy

Mozilla Firefox has a feature of creating and using multiple profiles. Multiple profiles means multiple settings at different instances of firefox. This makes it possible to open firefox using either of the selected profiles. This feature if used properly, acn better privacy in browsing sessions.

To create a new profile, open Firefox, and in the address bar enter, about:profiles.
Here you can Create a New Profile, Rename Profiles (including default firefox profiles), Remove Profiles (including default firefox profiles), Set as default profile && Launch profile in a new browser.

The about:profiles command in Firefox should yield something like:

Firefox about:profiles
Firefox about:profiles

An alternative, equally simple but more fun way to achieve most of the above Profile manipulation, in Windows. Launch Run by keyboard shortcut, Win+ R. Enter the command firefox -P and hit Enter.

Run Firefox Profiles
Run Firefox Profiles

The advantage of using the Run command in Windows machine is that it gives you the extra options of Work Offline && Use the selected profile without asking at startup as shown in the illustration below:

The focus here is on the option, Use the selected profile without asking at startup.

When you check it, launching Firefox won’t prompt you to Choose User Profile, and will use the selected default user profile.

Unchecking it will prompt you to Choose User Profile each time you launch Firefox – which is the required setting here.

Using multiple profiles in Firefox for privacy purposes:

Lets say, hypothetically, that you share a computer with your colleagues at work. If you use the default profile or the set profile and you are not pleased with the look and feel of Firefox, you’ll change the settings for Firefox.

Assuming you change the theme to maybe ‘Dark Theme’, the default Search engine, change the browser font && also change the History Settings to Never Remember. Unfortunately, your colleague(s) wants to use Firefox, and when they launch it, they are pissed by the choice of Theme, Font, etc., and decide to reset everything as it was in the default settings.

This is very inconvenient for you and compromises your privacy in case you are not aware of the resseting done before using Firefox the next time. To solve this problem, you can simply Create a New Profile and each time you want to use Firefox, launch firefox with your customized profile, and as you end your browsing session, just set the default Firefox profile back, Problem Solved!
